Chemical Operator - Level 1

Responsibilities of Position:

Pump off mixers according to procedures

Charge mixers with milled stock and solvent according to procedure

Pump off delivery tankers accordint o procedure and check solvent inventory

Oil mixer bearings and adjust drip oilers

Clean and maintain screens, screen cleaning tanks, and sample containers according to procedure

Take viscosity samples to Quality Control and obtain results

Report irregularities of cement or equipment to Supervisor

Take proper care of mixer gaskets, belts and mixing room tools

Fill out batch tickets

Work at all times in accordance with safety rules and HOS practices

Perform all duties as assigned and/or required by the Supervisor

Job/Production

Standards:

Charge and discharge mixer, pump cement to proper tanks, and unload delivery tank trucks.

Pump off and recharge 5 to 7 mixers daily and maintain all other daily duties. Perform duties in a manner such as to produce top quality cement.

Attributes/Skills

Required/Sought:

Have excellent understanding of PSM and safety requirements of working with solvents and

cement. Knowledge of handling hazardous material. Supports safe work place and identify/report unsafe conditions. Must follow all safety rules and protocols. Must work successfully in a team environment, be

dependable, have excellent attendance record, and champion HOS initiatives including 5s.

Experience/Education

Required/Sought:

Required: HS Diploma or GED; a minimum of one year

manufacturing experience (military experience may be substituted for

manufacturing experience); Must obtain forklift license within 90 days; must

become confined space certified.

Highly Desirable: Previous PSM experience; experience in lean

manufacturing/six sigma.

Physical

Requirements/PPE:

Moderate

or heavy physical effort andr mental-visual concentration for short intervals

on intermittent or irregular basis. Be

able to lift and transport up to and including 50 pounds. Must be capable of

moving up to 600 pounds by mechanical means (barrel truck, forklift, etc.). Replacing/cleaning

screens and tank cleaning requires bending, stooping and kneeling for

intermittent periods. A normal day’s activity requires employee to stand 90% in

the performance of assigned duties. Must work 12 hour work days. Must have ability to perform duties of a

Production Associate.

PPE: Steel toed

shoes; safety glasses; respirator; leather and/or chemical gloves; splash

goggles.

This facility is covered

under Process Safety Management (PSM) of Highly Hazardous Chemicals (OSHA

Standard, 29 CFR 1910.119). The intent

of this regulation is to prevent catastrophic events such as fires, explosions,

spills and toxic chemical release.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Willingness to transition to night shift in the near future
  • 1 year manufacturing experience
